ISO 22000

Food Safety Management System - Requirements for any organisation in the food chain. The system has been introduced in accordance with ČSN EN ISO 22000:2006. This is an international standard built on the pillar of ISO 9001, but elaborated to provide the possibility of improvement to companies operating in the food industry. The ISO 22000 standard specifies the requirements for organisations operating solely in the food chain, and it may be introduced only in companies which deal in the handling of foodstuffs, at least partially. The ambition of ISO 22000 is its utilisation in all organisations engaged in the food chain, i.e. from the primary agricultural production up to retail or public catering. This standard may be applied by the primary agricultural producers (cultivators, fodder producers) as well as vendors, transportation companies, distributors and other companies engaged directly or indirectly in the food chain, like cleaning companies, pest control companies, packaging manufacturers, etc. The system integrates the HACCP principles with preventive measure programs through the use of risk analysis in order to provide for their management. The requirements of the standard must be fulfilled so that safety as well as the quality of foodstuffs is always ensured. The system includes, supports and controls the HACCP principles as formulated by the Codex Alimentarius, the principles of supporting safety measures like good manufacturing practice (GMP), etc. It is one of the first food-industry standards to be internationally adopted, acknowledged and accepted. It involves the overall Food Safety Management System and can be applied to all organisations which supply in any way to the food chain. It is important for organizations wishing to guarantee their customers that their products are produced with high requirements for food safety.
